Christmas Review

Christmas Review

Just like that, Christmas has come and gone! It’s amazing how fast it goes each year. Here’s my Christmas review of 2023.

This yellow GTO was my second painting on cradled wood canvas and I think it turned out pretty good! I’m in the process of transitioning into acrylic paintings so I can make bigger pieces and I’m still in the “debug” phase. 1970 is my favorite GTO year, and this painting nods to one of my favorite car films, Two Lane Blacktop.

This old orange AMC Gremlin sketch is for my mom’s friend Donna. She had a Gremlin just like this years ago and this drawing pays homage to that memory. The Gremlin has such an iconic shape – I love the way this drawing turned out. The tires look nice and round, the body is shiny, and the white letters on the tires make it look muscular.

This 1978 Cutlass Supreme is a similar story. This is my first G-Body and I love the cleanliness of the lines and trim.

In most cases, I wouldn’t love the white body on white paper, but this looks awesome! I also love the chrome trim ring in the rims. Thank you Emily for the chance to draw Erik’s car!

This Trans Am WS6 is for my friend Kevin for his son Jay. I’m traditionally a Ford guy but the lines on this 4th gen T/A are incredible. It looks like a fire breathing dragon rocket ship!

Definitely one of the most challenging drawings of the year for me, I think it turned out great, though! I love the bird in the front fascia and the polished wheels. The white on gray really pops, and matches with the mat in the frame.

Finally, Jessie got me a Sketch Box for Christmas and it had some unique tools and paints to try in it. I used the materials to make two small paintings, starting with this rusty old field car.

Last, I painted this wrecked General Lee after being jumped for the show. I’m a big Dukes of Hazzard fan, and the colors in the kit were perfect for the General.

That’s all for my Christmas Review. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is looking forward to 2024! I have a list of really cool and unique pieces to create for the show season – stay tuned!
