1967 Impala from “Supernatural”

My friend Gabe loves the show Supernatural and his wife asked me to draw the car from the show for his wall. I started with a rough cartoon-ish sketch and finished up with a tighter, more controlled version. I like the abstract elements like the orange streaks from the indicators and the crossing edge lines.…

Hanging Some Pictures

Thought I’d hang some pictures today. I’ve had this 1970 GTO and 1968 Dodge Dart sitting in frames on the floor for awhile now. I hung them up today in our living room next to a couple non-art documents that are important to me. The top document is the invoice to my grandfather’s first new…

Sometimes, Just Experiment.

Everything doesn’t have to be just perfect all the time – sometimes, it’s important to experiment, let your hair down and just relax and do whatever. Have some courage and expect poor results, but just try something. The same goes for art. Color outside the lines. Be sloppy. Don’t worry about proportions (look at Picasso…).…

Green ’55 Chevy Gasser

Here’s a Tri-Five Chevy in GREEN with RED windows. This guy was sketched out with pencil, colored in with Copic markers, and detailed with black ink pen and Posca white paint pen. I LOOOOVE side pipes. And white walls. The hood scoop and mag wheels are the same as the Two Lane Blacktop hero car.…

Waking Vegas Hot Rod

Dart Vader

Yesterday I came across a photo of a Dodge Dart aptly named Dart Vader, built by Alloy Motors for the 2015 Sema show. I thought it would be an interesting experiment to draw it from a photo where the light source (sunset) is behind the car, creating a deep shadow in the front. This is…

1970 GTO, Take II

I’m torn about the Judge I drew over the weekend, so I made another GTO drawing. I’m still trying to work out the nuances of what I like and don’t like about my drawings. For instance, whether to outline the separations between color shades with ink pen…On this GTO, I mostly left them out and…

1970 Pontiac GTO Judge

The Judge package was introduced in 1969 and carried on in 1970 and again for a short period in 1971. Pontiac gave the GTO a redesign in 1970, removing the hide-away headlights from the ’69 model year. The ’70 GTO has been featured in several feature films including Two Lane Blacktop and Dazed and Confused.

1970 Dodge Coronet

The 1970 Coronet had a very polarizing effect on people – it had a very “love it or hate it” face. The designers at Chrysler were bold and used scowling eyebrow features in the grille. Unfortunately this face was used for only one year and a brought the Coronet back to a more conservative grille…

1955 Ford Fairlane

I made this marker sketch for my Mamaw for Christmas. It’s a 1955 Ford Fairlane in waterfall blue – her first car.
