Christmas Commission Season
‘Tis the season for everyone to wrap up their Christmas Shopping, or in more realistic cases, begin. For me, this is the Christmas commission season where people in need of a unique gift hire me to draw a car for them. Some people are hard to shop for, or already have everything. For them, I’m able to provide a unique and personalized gift of hand-made effort that you can’t buy at the store. It’s an absolute honor, and when I get reactions of excitement and gratitude, it makes me feel grateful for my talent.
That said, I’ve been very busy lately but I can’t share what all I’ve been working on and risk spoiling the surprise. I’ll post them after the new year, but until then I do have a few pieces I can share. I have a thing for early 1960s Oldsmobiles, so this one is a fridge-hanger for me, just for fun. The car is a 1961 Cutlass with a straight axle front end, fat tires, and velocity stacks. Since it’s an Oldsmobile, and it’s a gasser, I thought a clever name was “Old Gas.” This drawing is all Sharpie and Copic red for the lettering on white sketch paper.
This was a fun departure at the suggestion of our Pastor, Randy. He always wanted a Chevette and joked to me about drawing one, so naturally I had to do it. The car is a 1983 Chevette with a giant blower sticking out of the hood, tubbed, and side pipes. I sketched this car with Copic markers on printer paper.
As Christmas approaches, I ask that you consider skipping cheap Chinese junk from Amazon or Walmart and instead consider buying gifts from your favorite artist, crafter, woodworker, fabricator, builder, etc. It makes a huge difference and supports real people and their families – and it has a lot more heart and soul.
If you need Christmas cards, I have these postcard style single-pane cards featuring my hot rod Christmas truck. They’re $1/each or $8/ten (contact me on my contact page) plus shipping. I also still have a couple slots left for Christmas gift original drawings that I can complete prior to Christmas, but they’re running out fast! If you need cool art for a car person in your life, the Christmas Commission season is in full swing!
