Inktober, Part 1

Inktober, Part 1

It’s that time of the year again, Inktober! Each year, we penwhippers challenge ourselves to make one pen drawing each day of October based on a daily word prompt. Since I like to draw cars and vehicles, I try to focus my sketches there while still using the prompt. To add further focus, I’ve chosen to make my Inktober drawings all in the same style with hatch shading. So here’s to first few sketches of this year’s marathon – Inktober, Part 1:

Day 1: Fish

Inktober Fish

At first, I thought, “Of course – Barracuda!” but that seemed almost too easy. It’s not often that you see AMC Rambler Marlins, though. So just to change things up a little, here’s an AMC Marlin gasser. I really like how this sketch turned out.

Day 2: Wisp

Inktober Wisp

How about a wisp of steam from this 1905 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer? This car is powered by pressurized hot water, and can reach speeds of nearly sixty miles per hour! I think this one turned out pretty cool, too – There’s a lot of contrast between the light 005 hatch work and the heavier 05 line work.

Day 3: Bulky

Inktober Bulky

This one may be my favorite so far, not just because I like vans (I do), but the crispness of the detail seems to have just worked on this one. The knobbiness of the tires and detail in the grille area look cool on this bulky 1969 Ford Econoline camper van.

So that’s it for Inktober, Part 1. I’ll do my best to keep up with a sketch each day and to keep posts updated regularly here. Stay tuned for part 2, and watch for some of these sketches may go up for sale soon in the shop, here!
