2016 Mustang GT Drawing
I had a blast on this project – my friend Olivia reached out and asked if I could make a 2016 Mustang GT drawing of her mom’s car to give as a gift. Most of the cars I draw are older hot rods and muscle cars, but once in awhile, I’ll get a late model.
The car is a 2016 GT convertible in Deep Impact Blue with factory Premium 10 Y spoke 19″ wheels. First, I started out with a rough pencil sketch on white paper. Once the proportions were where I wanted them, I added the line work with Micron 005.
Even though the wheels are painted black, I wanted to capture character of the BBS-esque retro 10 Y wheels. Because of the detail, I used a protractor to mark off every 36 degrees radially around the hub to get even spacing. Here, I finished off the initial line work in 005:
I used MIcron 02 to add atmospheric perspective and give the car some depth.
At this point, the line work was done and it was time to start rendering. I wasn’t sure how to accurately capture the Deep Impact Blue, so I copied the drawing and experimented with Copic B66 purple as the light shade. It ended up looking right, so laid it down on the original.
Copic B28 & two layers of B29 make the medium and dark shades of the blue paint job.
Before moving to the grays, I used Posca White to create the shiny reflections in the paint and headlights. I was really proud of how the headlights turned out.
Finally, the grays fill out the black trim, wheels and tires, and interior.
After a little trimming, I mounted it in an 8×10 frame and shipped it out.
I was really proud how it turned out. This car is rendered with pretty dark tones, so I edited the scan 77% lighter so you can see some more detail.
Pretty sweet! The line drawing from this 2016 Mustang GT drawing is up on my Free Coloring Pages page so you can color your own. Have at it!
