1963 Pontiac Tempest Wagon

The Pontiac Tempest was unique in that it used a transaxle rather than a traditional transmission directly behind the engine. In 1963, Pontiac produced just six Super Duty Tempest wagons – this one with a 4-speed manual transaxle and a Super Duty 421 V8. This sketch was roughed in pencil, then lined with Micron pen.…

This Week’s Musings – Christmas COE & Bronco

I’ve made a couple sketches this week, both without marker. Here’s a Christmas 1939 Ford COE hauling a Christmas Tree. This sketch is done using Micron 005 on marker paper. This is a first-gen Ford Bronco sketched out using only #2 pencil on marker paper. I really like this forced perspective from the ground up…

Nashty – Bic Pen Scratch Sketch

Jessie had a girls’ party at the house yesterday, so I went out to Buffalo Wild Wings for a beer and some sketching. Here’s what came out, a gasser Nash called Nashty, as featured in Hot Rod in 2015. It’s entirely done in Bic pen on printer paper with a blue highlighter outline.

Old Crow

I’m feeling real hot-roddy lately. Classic hot rod style cars on toned tan just feel good ‘n classy so that’s been my style for the last couple weeks. Here’s an old whiskey delivery truck on toned tan. Here she is sketched out whilst I enjoy a whiskey myself. Markers next, just using grays on this…

November Doodles

I’ve been working on some rough doodles that I think have turned out pretty cool. Here are a few from the past week. This is an old Kaiser that’s been lifted in the front – kind of a gasser-lowrider hybrid. This is my 1954 Plymouth Belvedere from college. It’s lined in pencil only, no ink.…

Inktober Week #4

Just half a week left! Here are this past week’s submissions. Day 21 – “Treasure” The 1968 Camaro from the original 1995 Treasure Hunt is considered the “Holy Grail” of Hot Wheels cars. If you can find one, they usually sell for well over $1,000. Day 22 – “Ghost” The car from “The Wraith” starring…

Inktober Week #3

Man, making a sketch each day is kicking my butt – finding the time is tough. Here’s this past week’s postings: Day #13 – “Ash” For this one, I thought I’d draw the Oldsmobile that Ash drives in the Evil Dead – this car was director Sam Raimi’s high school car and it shows up…

Inktober Week #2

Week #2 was a blast and is now a wrap! Here’s a look at this week’s prompts. Day #7 was “Enchanted,” which made me think of the enchanted Ford Anglia from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This sketch was a bit of a risk because of the perspective – it’s shot from below…

American Graffiti ’32 Ford

While I’m on a movie car kick, how about the beautiful ’32 Ford Deuce Coupe from American Graffiti… George Lucas helped to return hot rods to the streets and revitalize the culture with the 1973 cult classic. Here’s the start – rough outline and first shades of Copic yellows: Then, filling in some details with…
