May Artwork
April and May have been a whirlwind and very busy for us, not just in creating art but in working on many projects around the house. That said, I’m excited to give a report on May artwork as well as some upcoming events!
I’ve been really into drawing ships and smaller boats lately. I find the shapes of boats to be easier than cars and they’re a lot more forgiving, too. I’ve drawn a couple Edmund Fitzgeralds, which is a big hit here in Michigan.
We had our first show of the season at the Michigan Antiques Festival and I sketched this little fishing boat between talking with customers.
We got up early, packed the car to the brim, and got the tent set up before the people arrived. It took us a minute to get back into the rhythm.
I’m updating my display this year with some extra grid racks, and I found this awesome antique toy truck for the table!
I think the display looks really good this year! I’ve added some extra non-framed pieces to give some variety. The show went very well – we met lots of cool people and won some business!
One cool piece I created this month was this ’50 Mercury lead sled kustom I drew on an old oil filter box.
Finally, I sketched another house portrait to take to shows as a demonstration piece for those more interested in that rather than cars. This house actually happens to be mine.
Car Spotting: I saw a few really cool cars around town this month and I thought I’d share them with you!
First, I spotted this Countach driving through Lake Orion. It definitely didn’t sound like a V6, so I’m confident it’s not a Fiero kit car. It sounded like a proper race car.
I spotted this ’67 Shelby just sitting on this ramp truck while vacationing in South Carolina. Amazing!
Finally, a new Hummer EV! Like it or hate it, it’s pretty amazing technology!
That’s all for May artwork. Our next show is the Sloan Auto Fair in Flint June 24-25. Come say hi – we’ll see you there!
