October Car Art

October Car Art

Just like that, October comes to a close! We’re starting to wind down the year and as fall sets in and the weather begins to change here in Michigan, I’m preparing for a busy Christmas season. We only have one more show this year: an art and craft show in December. Hopefully, It’ll be a great opportunity for some to get some last minute Christmas shopping done! Here are a few things we did in our October car art adventure.

We had our last outdoor show of the season, the Michigan Antiques Festival in Davisburg! I love this show – it happens twice each year – and it’s really a lot of fun to root around for junk out on the field. We also meet a lot of really cool people and make some great connections! The only problem was the temperature – it was freezing! Look at my face!

Between interacting with people at the shows, I like to make these little sketches on cardstock. Lately, I’ve been having a lot of fun drawing ships, and the detail in this tall ship turned out really great!

At our last show – Auto Fest in Frankenmuth – I sold a lot of my smaller quick sketch drawings. In preparation for the antique show, I wanted to backfill some of the gaps so I made a few more quick pieces.

I sold my Michael Keaton Batmobile, so I drew a new one in a slightly more blocky style. Like the last drawing, this Batmobile is drawn on a Batman book page.

Going along with my ship drawing, I also made this Edmund Fitzgerald sketch on a Moby Dick book page. Freighters are part of the culture here in Michigan and it’s pretty jarring to see one up close – they’re huge!

Last, I updated this older square body drawing with some stencil work outlining the Michigan mitten around the truck. It’s different, but square bodies are hot and people love Michigan.

I’ve had a few commission pieces this month, starting with this awesome BMW X4 sketch. I love how the white body pops off the gray page! Thank you Claire for the opportunity to draw this BMW for you!

Next was this amazing 1938 Ford Custom for Alan – I was a little unsure about this drawing at first, but as I got deeper into the rendering portion of the drawing, I really fell in love with this one! I love how deep the paint is on this car! Thank you Alan!

Next up was this Willys Jeep monster tow rig for Yvette! This was entirely different for me – Yvette asked for a CarToons-style drawing – do you remember the old magazine spin off from Hot Rod? This was an awesome adventure because not only was it a new drawing style for me, but we delivered the drawing to a mud bog and got to ride in the truck! Thank you Yvette for inviting us out!

Last for October car art is this amazing 1925 Buick Speedster for Alex. I met Alex at Auto Fest and he’s from my home state of Ohio. Look how much fun it looks like this speedster is – I feel like I can feel the wind looking at it!

I love how much detail there is in the mechanical workings and wire spoke wheels in this drawing. Thank you Alex for the opportunity to draw your beautiful Buick!

That’s about it for October car art – I still have some spaces left for Christmas commission work. If you’re interested in getting a Christmas gift drawing done, please contact me as soon as you can!
