Oldsmobile Hearse Drawing
Here’s something a little different! Occasionally I’ll meet people who are into unique types of cars or in specific clubs. I’ve found that there is group of pretty diehard hearse enthusiasts and they have a wide range of cool vintage hearses! One of them is this 1967 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight – I got an awesome opportunity to make this Oldsmobile Hearse drawing commission this week!
I started with a rough sketch on toned gray paper and lined it with ultra-fine Micron 005.
I especially like the side pipes, which is extra cool!
Next, I added some depth with a Micron 02 pen. The heavier line weight brings out some 3D atmosphere of the car.
I used a variety of Copic grays for the chrome trim, wheels, and tires. The nose of the car is aggressive – very cool!
I didn’t forget the orange funeral flags on the roof.
The first shade of red is actually a light pink.
Next, I added a slightly darker shade of pink and starting to build in some light reflections in the fender and hood.
Finally, I added a red and a maroon to round out the tone profile in this Oldsmobile Hearse drawing.
The final touch was adding some Posca white to emphasize the bright light reflections in the chrome and headlights. I also added the raised white letters in the tires.
The hearse drawing looks nice framed in 8×10. The white mat adds some depth to the drawing.
Thanks David for sharing this beautiful car and for the opportunity to make this drawing for you!
