Corvette Mural Concepts
I recently met a very cool man who was interested in some concept art for wall murals at his new garage he’s having built. He has a few cool cars – including this 1970 Corvette convertible – that he would like to feature in 1:1 scale on the walls of the garage. I’ve made a few Corvette Sharpie sketches this year, but these Corvette mural concepts highlight his car.
When we spoke, he wasn’t sure on which perspective he liked best, so the purpose of this series is to conceptualize a few orientations of his car that he can pick from for the painting.
This first Corvette Sharpie sketch features the car in front 3/4 view from the height of car’s beltline. I like this view because it makes the car look large and aggressive, as if it’s getting up in your face.
The line work is simply Micron pens on white printer paper. His preferred style is black and white, which is my favorite as well.
The rendering is done with Sharpie, which is actually a pretty high quality alcohol marker.
The next perspective is this straight-on side profile view. The idea with this perspective is that the 1:1 mural would reflect the actual car sitting in the garage. Side profile views are simple and more two-dimensional, but they’re classic and clean – one of my favorites!
The final option I’ve come up with is this front 3/4 view from the elevation of approximately eight feet above the windshield. This is a challenging view because it’s the most three-dimensional. The front, side, and top are all featured in this perspective.
Again, the line work is Micron 02 and 05 pens on white printer paper. This view is pretty cool, but it comes across as slightly cartoonish to me. The Sharpie marker rendering really lifts the drawing off the page and brings it to life.
Which of these Corvette mural concepts is your favorite?
