General Lee Drawing
When I was growing up, I loved watching the Dukes of Hazzard. Even to this day, I have a lot of fun watching old reruns of the show. Despite what modern culture would have you believe, the Dukes taught good old-fashioned family values, honesty, and hard work, but with the twist of the importance of standing up for yourself in the face of corruption. I made this General Lee drawing to memorialize all the good times I had (and continue to have) watching the show.
First, I made a rough sketch on white printer paper with a pencil. Sometimes the rough sketches are very rough, but I thought this one went very well!
Next, I lined the drawing with Micron 005 fine pen.
I layered in Micron 02 to add some depth to the drawing. The rear hips of the car really stand out in this view. It’s amazing to me how much wider the fenders and door are than the greenhouse portion of the car.
Next, I began layering in the Copic marker work in the areas outside the orange body.
The grille, shadow, interior, wheels, and tires were all various shades of gray. I wanted to do a hybrid style on this car mixing the traditional color blending and black blocking hot rod style of art.
The body of the car is a few shades of orange and red. I used Posca white to add in some light reflections around the car and outline the “01” on the door. Finally, to finish this General Lee drawing, I added a crosshair design behind the car to give it a unique flair.
