Jeep Wrangler Drawing
Back in 2020, I drew a Jeep JL for a friend. Recently, another friend saw a picture of it and asked if I could make a Jeep Wrangler drawing for him, too!
Jeeps are fun because, like Volkswagens, the following and fanbase is pretty intense. Jeep people love their Jeeps!
I started with a rough line sketch in pencil on white paper. It’s amazing how different the details are between the JL and JK platform I’m drawing here. In my mind, there really isn’t much difference, but the drawing the details really brought to light for me how different they really are.
Next, I lined the drawing with Micron pen. I was really proud of the cleanliness of the lines in the Jeep Wrangler drawing.
With the base line work complete, I re-lined some parts of the drawing with a heavier line weight to add some depth to the drawing.
To render the body, I used a variety of darker Copic neutral grays. The rear spare tire cover is a light purple.
I went for full black in some areas of the tires and in the shadow under the Jeep. It can be intimidating to use black because mentally we’re aware that nothing is truly black. Having some courage to go for it usually has good results.
I used a gray marker fade in the windows which usually looks pretty cool. Lastly, Posca white accents and details accentuate the light reflections around the sharp edges and corners of the rig.
Finally, I framed the Jeep in 8×10 with a white mat. A simple thin-weight line box behind the Jeep completes the drawing. Thanks Mando for the opportunity to draw this awesome Jeep!
