TROG Motorcycle Drawing

TROG Motorcycle Drawing

Last week, I posted about my first motorcycle drawing, a 1970s custom style. I think the ’70s customs are cool (think Easy Rider) and have a lot of attitude. I also have an appreciation for the older round-handlebar style bikes. In New Jersey, a race called The Race of Gentlemen is held by the Oilers car club on the beach featuring traditional hot rods and motorcycles. To honor them, I made this TROG motorcycle drawing.

I started the drawing with a rough pencil sketch, and subsequently lined the drawing with Micron pens. The shadow under the bike mirrors the shadow of the bike with the sun directly overhead. These bikes are so simple – a basic tube frame, V-Twin engine, rigid suspension, and squared off gas tank.

Finally to finish the TROG motorcycle drawing, I used an olive green marker to fill in the painted portions of the bike. I left the tires mostly open because sometimes these big fat tires are a lighter gray in color.

I’m particularly proud of the detail in the engine and chain and sprocket drive. As a finishing touch, I added a thick black outline around the bike to give it a little extra hot rod art flare.
