Hot Rod Coupe Drawing
I was so happy with the way this Corvette turned out that I thought I’d try drawing another car in a complex perspective with multiple vanishing points. While simple, the early 1930s Ford coupes also have a lot of complex angles and curves. Here’s an early 1930s hot rod coupe drawing from above.
I’m particularly happy with the fat tires mounted on steel wheels on this car. I think the gasser look on these old coupes looks nice and aggressive. The open hood reveals long tube headers, parts of the radiator and headlights.
I started with a rough pencil sketch on white paper. I had to adjust some of the contours to get it right. This drawing has two vanishing points, one far out to the left and one to the right, with the horizon line well above the roof of the car. Once the rough sketch was “right-ish,” I lined the drawing with Micron pens.
Finally, I finished this hot rod coupe drawing with Sharpie shading in the tires, shadow under the car, and the reflective portions in the body. I think this sketch will make a nice print to sell at shows and festivals this year! Keep and eye on my shop as these will be added soon!
