Corvette Top View Drawing

Corvette Top View Drawing

Last week when I was looking for a Corvette to draw, I found a photo of a C2 Corvette taken from the perspective of the top but cantilevered slightly to the side. I thought it was probably the most difficult perspective to draw due to its complexity. I do like a good challenge, and I was curious to see if I could do it, so here’s my Corvette top view drawing.

There are lots of challenging curves in this car. This perspective is complex because it captures the top, a shallow portion of the driver’s side, and a shallow portion of the rear. The rear of the car presents a unique challenge because it folds down under the car beyond the body line, causing it to disappear and look two-dimensional. The proportions aren’t perfect but I’m really excited with how well it turned out! It’s a little cartoony, but the reflective shadowing in the body curves gives it a cool presence.

I started with a rough pencil sketch on white paper. I spent most of my time here, working on getting this right.

Next, I lined the drawing with Micron pens. I was very happy with this line drawing. The lines are clean and smooth, and the line weights give good atmosphere.

Finally, I shaded this Corvette top view drawing with Sharpie markers. I used reverse shading in the shadow to make it a little more striking.

Both of these C2 Corvettes are being made into prints on cardstock, and will be available for sale at shows this summer! Visit the shop here if you’re interested in purchasing one!

    Really neat view!

Have you done any Volkswagon Karmman Ghia Convertibles.
I recently bought one. Would like you to do one of it before I sell it. I need to take some pics if you are interested.
