C2 Corvette Sharpie Drawing
I’ve been really enjoying making these quick Sharpie sketches. I’m hoping that they will be a hit at shows this summer and will excite Corvette and hot rod lovers. Recently, I found a picture of this Corvette drag car and thought it would make a great candidate for a C2 Corvette Sharpie drawing.
I started with a simple pencil sketch on white paper. This is a bit challenging perspective because it’s a front three-quarters view, but the hard launch squat makes it very dynamic. Once I was happy with the perspective, I lined the drawing with a variety of Micron pen line weights.
I’m very proud of the linework on this drawing: I think the lines are nice a clean but free flowing – not too stuffy. I think the blower and carburetor details are particularly cool, as well as the detail in the hood cutout that allows the engine to stick through. I also added the silhouette of a driver’s helmet. He’s hanging on for dear life as the car squats hard during a launch!
Finally, I used a fine point Sharpie to shade the drawing. I opted for a thick Sharpie outline rather than the typical black background that I usually use. The lines in the grille represent a billet aluminum piece. I opted for reverse-shading in the shadow, tires and interior for a unique style on this C2 Corvette Sharpie drawing. One last little touch was to add shiny reflective dots in the grille with Posca white to indicate the reflectivity of the grille. It’s subtle but makes a big difference.
This original will be available for sale in my shop soon!
