1969 Mustang Drawing

1969 Mustang Drawing

Mustangs are my first love. I was ten years old when the Gone in Sixty Seconds remake came out in 2000, and seeing that film in the theater changed my life. Ever since seeing that movie, I was a Mustang guy and knew I had to have one. One of the most muscular Mustangs of the sixties is the 1969 Boss 429. To honor that car, I made this 1969 Mustang Drawing.

I made some potentially controversial choices on this car based on my own preferences. First, the car was meant to give a nod to the big dog trims of 1969 and 1970 – the Boss 429. The Boss 429 had some unique features including an extra big hood scoop and of course the NASCAR homologation 429 big block engine.

I opted to remove the “Boss 429” decal on the fender and the chin spoiler to give a cleaner aesthetic. Steel wheels are my favorite, so I kept those and mounted them on Goodyear Polyglas tires. The raised white letter tires add to the aggressive disposition of the car to me. I also installed traction bars in front of the rear tires and fat long tube headers that flow back to chrome tips under the rear bumper.

I started this 1969 Mustang drawing with a rough pencil sketch on white paper. I’ve been sketching Mustangs specifically for over twenty years so I was able to knock this sketch out in about…sixty seconds.

I did have to make some adjustments, but once I was happy with the perspective and scaling, I lined the drawing with Micron pens.

I drew this car from just above ground level looking up, which adds to the intimidation factor of the car. There’s something about a no-nonsense plain-Jane stripper car with a huge engine that makes me grin.

Just like the last couple drawings, this one is going to be made into card stock prints that will be available for sale both online and at shows this summer!
