Chevrolet Hot Rod Drawing
My last Christmas commission of 2021 was this beautiful, heavily customized hot rod based on an early 1940s Chevrolet truck. I make quite a few truck drawings but this is the most unique truck I’ve drawn so far. I was really proud of how this drawing turned out, and the black-on-white style is one of my absolute favorites! This Chevrolet hot rod drawing was a bit of a challenge because I didn’t have images of some of the details in the front, so I had to piece together what it looked like through the power of online research!
First, I made a rough sketch using pencil on white card stock. The customer wanted a front 3/4 view mounted in 11×14, which means lots of detail in the drawing!
Next, I lined the drawing with Micron pen 005. I thought this was a cool in-process shot of the Chevrolet hot rod drawing.
Next, I used Micron 05 and 08 to add some atmosphere to the drawing, which gives it some depth. I was very proud of the line work in this drawing. I thought it came out very clean.
Next, I used heavy-weight Micron pens and Sharpie to fill in the shaded areas of the body, tires, shadow, and interior.
I used Copic markers to color just the logo on the door.
Finally, I mounted and framed the truck in an 11×14 frame with 8×10 mat. This drawing was definitely one of the most fun projects of the year and turned out really great. Thanks Marisa for the opportunity to draw this beautiful truck for you!
