1980 Corvette Drawing
This 1980 Corvette drawing was another Christmas commission piece I made for this past holiday season. I’m not usually a big C3 Corvette lover, but I think this car looks particularly muscled and aggressive!
First, I started with a rough sketch of the car in 3/4-front view on toned gray paper.
Once I was happy with the perspective, I lined the Corvette in Micron 005.
I thought this first layer of linework looked very nice and clean. Next, I added thicker Micron to give it some depth.
The black shaded portions of the car – the vents, grille, shadow, and wheel wells were shaded with Micron 05.
I used a variety of Copic blues to render the body. There are a lot of aggressive curves on this car, and the light reflections change dramatically along the contours. I’m particularly proud of the shading on this 1980 Corvette drawing.
I used white charcoal pencil to add a little bit of white light reflection in the fenders, rims, interior, and windshield.
Finally, I used Posca white to add a few bright light reflections, and add the raised white letters on the tires.
I framed the drawing in a matted 8×10 frame and dropped it off with the new owner! Thank you Brian, and Merry Christmas!
