Batmobile Drawings
My wife, Jessie had a really cool idea a couple months ago. She suggested that I sketch pop-culture vehicles and design motifs on book pages. I started with these Batmobile drawings on pages from a Batman book.
I started with the classic 1966 Adam West Batman Batmobile. Since the page is narrow, I chose a front end view. This Batmobile originated as a Lincoln concept car in the 1950s before it was customized by George Barris’ company for the show in the 1960s. As a lover of kustoms and hot rods, the 1966 Batmobile is arguably the coolest.
I sketched the car using Micron pens for the outline, and Copic markers for the rendering. It was important to me to draw the Batmobile drawings on pages that referenced the Batmobile, so if you look on the page, you can see a few places where it’s referenced. I thought this was a cool perspective because the shadows add to the mystery of the car. I used a red Pilot pen for the red accents.
Finally, I framed the sketch in 8×10. I think the white mat frames the drawing well.
The next Batmobile drawing was of the 1989 Michael Keaton / Tim Burton Batmobile. I drew this Batmobile on a page opposite a Batman logo, which you can faintly see on the other side of the page. I think it gives it a cool faint framed look, which was entirely accidental.
This car was also drawn using Micron pens and Copic grays for the rendering. I also used the red Pilot pen for the outline, and then outlined over top of that with Posca white. The Posca is tough to see because the page is fairly light toned.
Finally, I framed this Batmobile in 8×10 as well.
