1955 Chevy 210 Drawing

2021 seems to have been the year of the 1955 Chevy for me. I’ve about half a dozen ’55 Chevys this year, which is no problem for me – the ’55 Chevy is definitely in my top five favorite cars! This 1955 Chevy 210 drawing was a commission piece for a Christmas gift.

In 1955, Chevrolet had three trim levels for their car. The 150 was the base line car and had almost no trim. The 210 was the mid level car, and the best-known Bel Air was the top line trim package.

I started with a rough line sketch in pencil on gray paper. I love the Cragar SS wheels on this car – it really gives it a cool, aggressive look.

When I was happy with the sketch, I lined the car with Micron 01 pen. I think the lines turned out very clean on this drawing. It might be my best line drawing of the year!

I doubled up on some of the lines to add some atmospheric perspective and make the car look three-dimensional. I also started to add some of the reflective details in the chrome and trim.

Next, I used heavy-weight Micron pens and Sharpie markers to fill in the dark shaded areas in the body, tires, and shadow.

Finally, I used Posca white to fill in the white reflective parts of the body and chrome. This 1955 Chevy 210 drawing is definitely one of my favorites of the year. I like the tilted angle of perspective that allows you to see part of the top of the car, hood, and trunk. I think it gives it a unique 3D feel, which can be a challenge for a traditionally 2D side view.

This is a really beautiful car, and one I’m definitely jealous of. It was an honor to draw this car for the client. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
