1973 Chevy Nova Drawing
Now that Christmas has passed, I’m thrilled to be able to share some of the Christmas commission pieces I’ve been blessed to get this year! I haven’t had a lot of Chevy Novas this year – only a few, and most are 1970 versions or of the 1960s Chevy II variety. This is a later 1973 Chevy Nova Drawing.
First, I roughed out the car in pencil on toned gray paper.
Next, I blocked in the line work with Micron pen 02. I added some atmosphere with micron 05. The heavier line weight gives some depth to the bumper, fenders, and windows.
The car is named “Novacaine,” a play-on-words nodding to the model, and the client asked for the lettering on the trunk to be represented above the car.
I used Sharpie to block in the black shaded areas. Surprisingly, Sharpie is actually a very high-quality alcohol marker.
Next, I used a Copic blue to match the coloring in the lettering and syringe.
Finally, I used Posca white to shade the lighter reflective portions of the body and chrome.
Most people talk about the 1970-72 Novas and the 1973 and up models get a bad rap. This, however, is an extremely clean, beautiful, well-built example. It’s been an honor to make this 1973 Chevy Nova drawing for the customer. What a beautiful car!
