1966 Chevy Nova Drawing
Lately, I’ve made a few variations on a 1966 Chevy Nova gasser for a client. Here are a few adaptations on a 1966 Chevy Nova drawing.
I actually started this drawing with the car rotated more toward the side and just showing a small portion of the front grille. I started with a rough pencil sketch on toned tan paper. When I was happy with the layout, I lined the drawing with Micron pens.
Next, I used heavy weight Micron pens and Sharpie markers to fill in the shaded portions. I think the Cragar SS wheels and the chrome blower came out well.
Finally, I filled in the shiny reflective areas with Posca white.
Next, I re-lined the car, rotating it more toward the front.
At this point, I realized I used gray paper instead of tan, so I had an extra piece. I had to re-line the drawing again on tan paper.
I used Sharpie and Posca white to finalize this 1966 Chevy Nova Drawing. Finally, a quick crop and mount in an 8×10 frame finished this drawing for the customer. I think the white shading looks cool against the white mat.
I did still have the gray paper mess up from the first redraw, so I rendered it for myself in orange.
I used Copic neutral grays for the chassis and wheels. The wheels further away are lighter to give the impression that they’re further away. Copic yellows and oranges make up the body. I used white charcoal pencil to accentuate the light reflections in the body and block the background rectangle. Finally, I used Posca white to highlight the light reflections in the chrome, and outline the car to pop it off the page. Some of our friends say it looks almost like a sticker! What do you think?
