1955 Chevy Pro Street Drawing
The 1955 Chevy is one my favorite cars, and I’ve had four ’55 Chevy commissions this year. I grew up watching the cult classic Two Lane Blacktop, which features a home-built gasser version and ever since, I’ve pined for one. This 1955 Chevy Pro Street drawing is the latest commission piece that makes me recall my childhood watching the 1971 film.
I started the drawing by making a rough pencil sketch on tan paper. Did you know that the front bumper is actually upside down on these cars? Harley Earl asked the early builders to flip the bumper upside down so that people could see themselves in the reflection when they walked up to the car.
Next, I lined the drawing with Micron 005 pen. The giant engine with the roots style blower on top gives the car a menacing look.
Then I used a thicker pen to add some perspective, making the line drawing pop off the page a little.
Next, I used a Micron 01 pen to add some detail. I’m particularly proud of the grille and headlights on this drawing. I also think the bumper looks cool .
I used a heavier weight Micron pen to fill in some of the dark shading on the body. The windows have a gray grading to give a mirror-like finish. I really love how the line work turned out on this drawing.
Lastly, I used Posca white to fill in the shiny reflections. The big meaty tires sure are aggressive.
Finally, I cropped the drawing and framed it in 8×10. I think the white reflections in the car match the matting well on this 1955 Chevy Pro Street drawing, don’t you?
