1937 Humber Drawing

1937 Humber Drawing

It’s an honor to create art for people who love cars, and it’s extra special to be able to participate in others’ Christmases. This 1937 Humber drawing was a commission piece that we subsequently turned into a batch of Christmas cards for the owner to send out to his friends and family.

The Humber Snipe was a classic luxury saloon produced by Humber Limited, a British company from 1930-1940. I started the drawing with Micron pen line work. I used heavier than usual lines for the line work, starting with Micron 03 and ending with Micron 05 for the atmospheric lines.

Next, I added black shading with Micron 05 in the interior, fenders, tires, and grille housing.

Next, extra detail in the wire wheel spokes was added, along with additional shading in the body. I left the bottom third of the body unshaded to accentuate the curvature in the door and fender. The customer requested a snowman, which I think turned out very cool – pun intended!

I used white charcoal pencil to shade the snowman, and Posca white paint for the reflective portions of the car.

I was particularly proud of the detail in the wire spoke wheels and how well they turned out! I’ve only drawn a few spoked wheel cars, and it definitely takes some patience!

I’m really proud of this 1937 Humber drawing. I think the shading is cool, and the Christmas cards will turn out to be a lot of fun for the customer to send to friends and family.

Thank you for the opportunity to draw this beautiful car!
