More Hot Rod Sketches
The quick hot rod sketches I’ve been making lately are actually a lot of fun to make. They’re a little rougher, lighter on detail and a little more free flowing. Last week, I finished a few more hot rod sketches and they’re quickly becoming one of my favorite styles!
This simple 1st generation Camaro has been a big hit. The original sold at the Auto Fest last weekend and this sketch has been one of my most liked on social media so far this year. It’s just simple line work and shading with Micron pens and Sharpie on Canson marker paper. I used a light gray Copic Wide to make the streaking effect.
I love the classic Chevy 3100 styling, and I draw them fairly frequently. This one sports a two-tone Copic tangerine orange and white paint job which compliments the whitewall tires. It has a mild chop, and sits in front of a midcentury design pattern.
This little roadster was a fun sketch. These old racers are usually pretty simple to draw because they’re super simple and stripped down. My favorite part about this one is the midcentury house sitting in the background. The color was done with Copic flesh tones, and the black is Sharpie marker.
Cadillac is known as the Standard of the World, and the 1959 version is among the most iconic automotive designs – who doesn’t love huge fins? This purple Cadillac sits in front of the Detroit skyline featuring the GM Renaissance Center.
Finally, the Jon Favreau Iron Man hot rod from the first Iron Man film is a classic. I really wanted to do a sketch in this style with flames, and I think this turned out pretty cool! The flames are Copic yellows and reds, and the black is Sharpie.
We’re winding down the show season, so I may not make many more hot rod sketches, but we’ll just see how it goes.
