Ford Truck Drawing
I was privileged to be asked to make this Ford Truck Drawing for a friend for a Christmas gift earlier this month. Lately, many of the requests I’ve had have been in black and white. While I love the black and white style, it’s refreshing to get the old markers out and dusted off!
I started by roughing out the truck with pencil on Canson marker paper.
Sometimes, the blockier cars and trucks are actually difficult, especially in 3D perspective. Once I was happy with the proportions, I started lining with Micron 01 pen.
I was particularly happy with the way the grille turned out – I think it looks really cool! I finished the line work with some atmosphere using heavier line weight Micron pens. I was really proud of the line work on this drawing – nice and clean.
Next, I started with markers. I used a variety of neutral grays for the chrome. Black markers were used for the dark areas: grille cavities, wheel wells, and shadow under the truck. It was a bit tricky to get the lettering on the hood to look right. The letters get smaller and turn slightly with the contour of the hood as they get further away from the position of the viewer.
Lastly, I used three Copic blues to render the body work. A very light blue captures the areas of the body where the light is heavily reflected off the paint. Blues B28 and B29 are darker hues that I used to show the light reflecting off the sides of the body.
Finally, I framed the Ford Truck Drawing in a matted 8×10 frame and shipped it to the customer. Thank you again for the opportunity to render this beautiful truck!
Speaking of trucks, I have Christmas Cards featuring my Kustom Christmas Truck available for $1/ea or ten for $8. Message me for details.
