Hot Rod Quick Sketches

Hot Rod Quick Sketches

This summer, Jessie and I have been setting up a pop up tent at a few events and selling art live. It’s been a lot of fun, I’ve met a lot of really cool people, and sold some art. I’ve noticed that my price point might be a bit high for some impulse shoppers, so I’m trying something new! I’m working toward creating a lower price point line with these Hot Rod Quick Sketches!

Depending on the size, most of my drawings take anywhere from 3 hours to as many as twelve. I want something I can sell at shows more palatably to impulse shoppers at say, $40-ish. Therefore, my goal is to make some quality, frameable pieces in roughly thirty minutes.

First up is this heavily customized 1947 Cadillac convertible that is drawn using Sharpie markers on a piece of green printer paper I had laying around. This one took about 35 minutes and came out very pop-arty, which I think is very cool.

Next is this 1950-ish Mercury Kustom, drawn in sharpie on marker paper. Sharpies are actually very high quality alcohol markers. They’re crisp, flow, and blend well. By the way, Jessie really likes the cactus in this one.

This next one was a fun project. This is a late-1940s Chevy Fleetline with some art deco motifs on marker paper. The salmon color is Copic marker, and the black is Sharpie.

Finally, since Christmas is coming in just a few short months, I wanted to remind everyone that It’s ok to shop early! The owner of this old truck has his chainsaw ready to pluck his tree! I’ve been getting a fair amount of requests for Christmas, and I expect it to ramp up over the next month or two, so if you’re thinking about a Christmas car drawing, or even one of these Hot Rod Quick Sketches, don’t hesitate to reach out now!
