1940 Ford Drawing
This week has been a busy one for us and finding time to draw has been tough. Our baby is entering teething mode so she needs a little extra attention. Anyway, I’ve spend the last week or so working on this 1940 Ford Drawing a little bit at a time.
I like the 1939 & 1940 Fords because the triangular pointed grille makes for a cool custom. This a front 3/4 view which really emphasizes the intricacies and details of the front end. My last ’40 Ford was a side view, which is also shows nice proportions.
I started with a rough pencil sketch on toned gray paper. The compound teardrop headlight bezels wee a challenge.
Next, I re-traced in extra thick Micron pens, which I think I prefer over the lighter weights. It just makes it pop out better. These were Micron 05 & 08.
The dark shaded areas were filled in with Sharpie, which also corrected the wheel line issue in the line work.
The rest of the body shading was completed with Sharpie markers. For light reflections, I went more subtle on this drawing and used white charcoal pencil. It’s tough to really make it out here. I used Posca white to accentuate the extra bright reflections and draw the outline on this 1940 Ford Drawing.

I really like the 1940 Ford. Black and white is perfect for the frontal.
Thanks Charlie! It’s one of my favorite front ends.
