1970 Buick GSX Drawing
Keeping with the color-rendered side view theme I’ve been using lately, I chose to draw one of my favorite muscle cars representing Buick’s performance era. Here’s a 1970 Buick GSX drawing.
I started with a basic sketch in pencil on Canson marker paper, and retraced it with Micron 01 pen.
The GSX was a performance package based on the Skylark. I really love the muscular presence of the 1970 Skylark.
Next, I used Micron 03 and 05 pens to thicken up some of the lines and add some perspective. I also filled in the shadow, rims, wheel wells, and hood with black.
I started the marker rendering at the windows. The reflection shows a combination of light blue fading into neutral grays toward the top.
Finally, I used three yellow shades for the body paint. I built the white reflections in the body work by simply leaving them blank. I did use Posca white for the tires, which are raised white letter Goodyear Polyglas. I’m not a huge fan of yellow cars, but the GSX was only available in yellow and white. Yellow really just works on the GSX, and on this 1970 Buick GSX Drawing.
