1966 Barracuda Drawing
I’ve been in the mood lately to make clean marker drawings on white paper. Following last week’s Mustang drawing, I decided to make a 1966 Barracuda drawing this week, but with some minor modifications.
First, I made a rough pencil sketch and overlaid it with Micron 01 pen. In this picture, you can see the overlay. I’m really proud of the cleanliness of the pen linework on this one.
Next, I layered in Micron 02 pen to give some perspective and depth. On these side-view drawings, I like to raise the angle either up or down just a skosh to give the drawing some dimensionality. In this case, you can see some of the hood, seat, and under the rear glass.
Next, I used Micron 05 to fill in all the dark areas – the slots in the Ralleye wheels, inside the wheel wells, interior, and the shadow under the car.
Often, the line drawing comes out better than the marker-rendered piece, but in this case, I really love the marker work. I went with orange-yellow shading on the body paint.
There are actually four different shades of yellow and yellow-orange in the body. Even though the AAR ‘Cuda didn’t come out until 1970, I gave this ’66 Barracuda drawing a bit of an AAR treatment. The car sits on Ralleye wheels, has the AAR side-exit chrome-tipped exhaust, has a blackout hood with NACA-style scoop, and a black side-stripe. The car sits on meaty rear tires and has a heavy rake.
Finally, I used Posca white to add reflections in the body, fender flares, and chrome.
