1969 Mach 1 Drawing
Last week’s 1969 Mustang drawing had me really admiring the beauty of that design – it’s aggressive yet sporty. The lines in the roof, side windows, fenders and grille remind me of angry eyebrows. This week, I decided to make another 1969 Mach 1 drawing, this time in color.
I first started with a rough pencil sketch.
Next, I re-traced with Micron 02, cleaning up the lines a bit.
Next, I used Micron 03 and 05 to thicken up some of the lines, giving the car some perspective.
At this point the line work was complete, so I started in on the marker work. I started with grays on the hood and light blue in the sky reflections.
Body paint red was next – I used about six different reds, from light pink to maroon.
Finally, I used Posca white to add in some white reflections around the body work and wheels.
I chose to make the front wheels Cragar SS, while the rear wheels are steelies mounted on drag slicks. The car sports side exit exhaust, and front and rear spoiler delete. I also deleted the side stripes (read: didn’t feel like drawing them in).
Stay tuned for the next drawings!
