1963 Corvette Drawing
I was blessed this week to work on another commission – this time a two-piecer! The subject is a red 1963 Corvette drawing. The 1963 Corvette is famous for being the only year for the split rear window on the hard top models, but this car is a convertible with a removable hard top. Here’s part one of two.
Similar to the MGA I drew last week, this 1963 Corvette drawing is oversized on toned gray paper. As usual, I started with a rough sketch in pencil.
The smaller drawings allow for more fudginess and mistakes, but the detail sure comes out with these large ones! Not much room for error!
Once I was satisfied with the proportions, I started the line work using Micron 01. I spent a little extra time here making sure the lines were clean. This car is wearing the factory 6-spoke hubcaps with spinner knock-offs.
Next, I layered in Micron 05 to give some atmospheric perspective. At this point, the line work was complete.
I started in with the markers next, focusing primarily on the grays in the wheels, grille, and bumpers.
The final marker work was the red body itself. I started with three shades of pink, and finished with two shades of red and one shade of maroon.
Finally, I used white charcoal pencil to add some white reflection in the body, on the hood, around the chrome, in the windows, and most effectively, to reflect the bumpers in the nose of the car.
At this point, the drawing was complete – after adding a signature, of course. The finishing touch was to frame the drawing in 14×18 with mat.
Off to its new owner in Florida! I hope you enjoy!
