Cozy Coupe Custom Drawing
Our lives changed this week. On Thursday, November 19, our daughter Lucy Rae was born. She’s a little early and very small – only four pounds – but she’s doing really well and each day is a huge step forward. I thought it would only be fitting to give her her first hot rod, this Cozy Coupe Custom Drawing.
Lucy is still in the NICU, so right now there’s a little bit of time to sit at home and get ready for her homecoming – and so between bottle changes and cleaning the house, I draw.
I started this Cozy Coupe custom drawing by lightly sketching it out in pencil.
Next, I used a variety of Micron pen weights – first, starting with Micron 01 to get the base down. Then, I moved down to 005 to attack some of the shading in hatch. Finally, I laid down Micron 05 to get some depth and perspective.
I added “Lucy ’20” in a vintage racing font on the door. Cozy Coupe is chopped almost in half, the engine is a 12-cylinder, and the rear steel wheels are mounted in slicks.
Finally, I shaded the body with three shades of yellow and two shades of red to capture the classic Cozy Coupe color scheme.
I have to say, I sure do love cars, and hot rods and sketching and none of those things come even close to how much I love my daughter. She is just the coolest. I am beyond blessed. But I sure do hope she likes cars too.
Unfortunately, this drawing is for my wife and I and will not be going up for sale.
Here’s a link to the shop, though. Remember, Christmas is just around the corner! I already got my gift and it’s the best one I’ve even gotten!
