Hudson Hornet Drawing
It’s fun to try new things, especially for creative sketchy sketch types like me. I’m starting to get a little low on white sketch paper – one with lots of tooth that I’m trying to finish off – and so I found a piece of cardboard slated for the trash and repurposed it with this Hudson Hornet Drawing.

The early 1950s Hudsons are among my favorite cars. I especially love the ones with the tri-bars in the grille. The shape is clean, sleek, and futuristic space-agey.

I like the cardboard because the tone is similar to toned tan paper and contrasts well with both black and white. I started with Micron 01 0.25mm line weight to outline the car.

Next, I moved to Micron 05 0.45mm line weight to add some depth and perspective.

From there, I used Micron 02 and 05 to begin filling in the dark shaded areas in the car – the interior, shadow, and dark spots in the chrome.

After that, I pulled out the ol’ Sharpie and filled in the body shadows.

Finally, I used Posca White to fill in the shiny parts in the body and chrome, and outline the car. I think the result is pretty cool and would look good framed with a white mat. What do you think of this Hudson Hornet drawing?
