Inktober Part 7
Here’s the seventh installment of daily October vehicle sketches – Inktober Part 7. This is one of my favorite sets so far. I really enjoyed these sketches and like the way they turned out. Right now I’m a day behind, but I think I’ll be able to catch up this weekend as we close out the month. After that, November will open up for Christmas gift drawings! Send me a message if you’re interested!
Day 25: Buddy
For “Buddy,” I chose to draw the classic Buddy L pressed metal hot rod toy. Buddy L was a vintage metal toy company that made classic metal toys similar to Tonka and Nylint. Drawing a toy car is a little bit different stroke for me, but was a lot fun as these old pressed metal toys are pretty cool. One difference is the detail – the stamped body has vague details which make it easy to draw. I crossed the hatch work in the shadow for a different technique.
Day 26: Hide
This was a tough one, but ultimately I chose to draw Paul Walker’s 1971 Chrysler Newport from the movie Joy Ride. Paul Walker and Steve Zahn use this car to hide from Rusty Nail, the psychotic truck driver. I rushed this one a bit and the rear wheel ended up a skosh too far back.
Day 27: Music
This one was tough, too, but for the opposite reason – “Music” can be just about anything. Hot rods and music just go together. I ended up going a different route – there’s a local rock band in Metro Detroit called the Twistin’ Tarantulas, and they have a great song about a dog-trackin’ Nova. It’s a great song, and to celebrate it I drew this 1970 Nova with a blower through the hood. This is just the line work; I’ll go back and fill in some detail and shading later.
That’s all for Inktober Part 7. Just a couple more days and we’ll be wrapped for Inktober 2020.
