Inktober Part 6
Here’s the sixth installment of daily October car sketches, Inktober Part 6. There’s some pretty cool cars in this set, and the first is my favorite of the set. Just three more days of drawing until the end of Inktober and the beginning of Christmas gift season (Car drawings make a great unique Christmas gift)!
Day 22 – Chef
This one is fun because it incorporates some vehicle design. An aside: There’s a big difference between car art and car design. Art is just…art – whatever you make it and want it to be. It can just be a representation of a thing that already exists, or something entirely whimsical. Design, on the other hand requires a new idea or thought – something that doesn’t yet exist. I digress.
For “Chef,” I drew the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, an iconic sight by any measure. Instead of drawing it in its traditional form, I decided to add an element of design – specifically, Art Deco style. Most obviously, I traded the logo stripe for an art deco font, new logo design, and some scallop trim. I added a big ornate headlight, wheel covers, and lowered the whole thing. It turned out to be a cool fresh representation of a classic.
Day 23 – Rip
I don’t love this one. I rushed, and line weights got a little weird. For “rip,” I struggled to find a car to draw, but ultimately settled on the villain car from Grease – Hell’s Chariot. The hubcaps have spinning tire poker-outers used to rip up the tires of race opponents. Good thing Grease Lightnin’ out-maneuvered him.
Day 24 – Dig
This one was a bit of a challenge, too. I decided on the Grave Digger monster truck – it turns out the original version was this 1957 Ford pick up mud bogger, that eventually was retired for the panel truck we all know today. “Dig” those big knobby tires!
That’s all for Inktober Part 6. Stay tuned for Part 7!
