Inktober, Part 3
Dang, I’m trying to keep up! But alas, I have missed a day or two. My plan is to do my best through the rest of the month and then come back and pick up the Inktober prompts I missed. Here are the sketches from Inktober, part 3:
Day 7: Fancy
Many options come to mind for “fancy” – maybe a Rolls Royce, or Aston Martin. I chose this 1937 Cord 812 Sportsman convertible, and hot rodded it a little bit. I lowered the whole thing, tucked the bumpers, and added triple side exit exhaust from the supercharged Lycoming V8.
Day 8: Teeth
For “Teeth,” I chose to draw Rusty Slammington, the chopped and dropped BMW E28 of StanceWorks editor Mike Burroughs. The side is painted with WWII fighter-esque shark nose art.
Day 9: Let’s pause today to remember Eddie Van Halen
Day 9 is supposed to be “Throw,” but I chose to pause Inktober prompt-sketching to remember one of the most incredible musicians, Eddie Van Halen.
EVH passed on October sixth from throat cancer. I was fortunate enough to get to see Eddie play with Van Halen in 2008 – man, what a performance! The design of this guitar, Eddie’s Frankenstrat, has become an icon representative of the band. Interestingly, the design is an inadvertent product of Eddie’s insatiable stickling for a particular sound. He would tear guitars apart, use the parts he wanted, and then tape it all back together to get what he was looking for. Eddie, thanks for an irreplaceable sound. You will be missed.
Day 10: Hope
For “Hope,” I thought I would draw something from Star Wars: A New Hope. Something like an X-Wing or the Millennium Falcon. I ended up doing something a little less obvious – Hutch’s Chevy van from Fanboys, complete with R2-D2 sticking out the top.
That’s all for Inktober, Part 3. Stay tuned for part 4 coming soon!
