1955 Buick Sketch
When I was a kid, muscle cars of the 1960s were my favorite. It’s a tough call, but I think they still are. The thing is, though – hot rods of the 1930s, ’40s, and ’50s are SO MUCH FUN to draw! The curves, fins, simplicity, copious amounts of chrome, and pride in design give them so much character. Everyone knows how much of a sucker for tri-five Chevys I am, but how about a 1955 Buick Sketch?
If you look closely, it shares a lot of the same character as the Chevy, just with some added flare. I started this 1955 Buick sketch out with a simple pencil outline on toned gray paper.
From there, I re-traced with Micron 01 pen.
Next, I added some atmospheric perspective with heavier line weight Micron pens.
Finally, I added Micron blues and Posca white to the body. The brightwork uses a variety of light grays. The roof was colored with white charcoal, which is evident by the extreme tooth in the paper.
I outlined the drawing with Posca White to pop the car off the page.
I really like the way the white roof, white scallops, and whitewall tires contrast with both the blue body and the gray paper. The interior is darker blue, and that further embodies the rollicking style of the 1950s.
