2020 Telegraph Cruise
We did something completely new this weekend, and I jumped pretty far outside my comfort zone. We were invited by Detroit Stitching Company to set up a booth at the 2020 Telegraph Cruise in Taylor, Michigan, to display and sell art.
I’ve been asked about doing this before, and wasn’t going to pursue it due to insecurity, but this time, it just felt like this was my shot – it’s now or never, you just gotta jump!
So, in January, Jessie and I started to collect the pieces we would need to set this display up – that’s right, it’s been six months in the making.
We purchased a nice sturdy canopy with leg weights, a display rack for prints, mesh panels to hang framed drawings on, a banner, and lots of other odds and ends to make it happen.
Luckily everything fit in the trunk, but it was pretty tight!
We arrived around noon, and started setting up the canopy and mesh panels for the framed drawings. I learned that zip ties are worth double their weight in gold.
We had framed drawings, prints, stickers, and even a couple of unique art pieces for sale, including my ’57 Chevy gas can from a couple weeks ago.
We didn’t have a ton of traffic because of the coronavirus, but we had a lot of fun, saw some really cool cars, and learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t work. I definitely have some improvements to make, and this was a great first run to learn on.
I’m super grateful to Roy and his team at Detroit Stitching for giving me this opportunity at the 2020 Telegraph Cruise, and hope to be invited back next year!
