’57 Chevy Gas Can
I thought I’d try something a little different this week – I picked up this old yellow gas can and decided to add a little hot rod art to it. And thus – the ’57 Chevy Gas Can.
I picked the gas can up from a neighbor who posted it on Facebook Marketplace. It had some good patina – the top and bottom are pretty rusty, and the scratches in the paint have oxidized. I started like I usually would on paper, roughing out the car with pencil, which worked surprisingly well. This particular car is a 210 coupe in racing trim. I left the brightwork, but added gasser fender headers, Torque Thrust wheels up front, and steelies in the back on fatter tires.
Next, I re-traced over the pencil with Faber Castell small and 1.5 marker, which really didn’t stick very well at all because the ink had nowhere to absorb into. This made it a challenge to finish the car because I had to be careful not to smudge what I had already laid down.
FInally, I added just a few white reflections with Posca White to finish off the ’57 Chevy Gas Can. It’s a little more unique than a wall-hanging. What do you think about this piece?
