1978 Corvette Pace Car Drawing
I’m really excited about how this 1978 Corvette Pace Car drawing turned out – I’m not usually a big Corvette guy, but this one is sweet!
I chose to draw this car from ground-level looking up. Corvettes – and I think especially third-gen Corvettes – are proportioned with a much larger wheels-to-body ratio, and looking up at the car gives an aggressive perspective.
After roughing the car out in pencil, I completed the line work in Micron pens. The Goodyear Eagle GTII raised white letter tires give the car’s appearance a lot of muscle.
I finished the render using Copic markers on the tires, 8-spoke polished aluminum wheels, and two-tone paint. Posca white was used for the white shine and the tire letters. The red accents – the pinstripe along the body, and the “Official Pace Car” decal – were finished using red colored pencil.
Finally, the drawing was framed in an 11×14 frame with a white 8×10 mat which accents the white reflections in the body on this 1978 Corvette Pace Car drawing.
