1955 Chevy Gasser Drawing
The ’55 Chevy is in my top five favorite cars – maybe even top three. I’m really enjoying drawing in this black and white style, and so I’ve added to this collection with this 1955 Chevy gasser drawing.
This particular car was made famous in two movies – American Graffiti and Two Lane Blacktop. The same car was used for both films. The car was painted and styled differently between the two movies; in Blacktop, the car was primer gray, wore American Racing Daisy wheels, no front bumper, and a grump lump hood scoop. In Graffiti, the car was painted gloss black, had chrome steel wheels, a front bumper was added, and a smaller rounded hood scoop. This drawing represents a bit of a hybrid between the two styles.
I started this drawing off with the wheels and under-body details. The perspective is a low 3/4-front looking up which gives a view of the crank pulley, solid front axle and some of the suspension. All the line work is Micron pens on toned gray paper.
I played around with how I was going to shade the body, and ultimately ended up with this pattern.
Finally, I used Posca White for the shiny parts to finish off this 1955 Chevy Gasser drawing.
