1951 Mercury Custom
You know how much I like drawing on toned tan paper – I bought a new pad but this time it’s toned gray. And what better car to draw on my first leaf than a 1951 Mercury Custom?
I was shocked at how cool this turned out. White contrasts well with tan paper, but I think it pops even more on gray!
Along with the gray paper, I bought some new Alvin ship curves to more accurately get the long sweeps of the body lines, so I tried them out here. Here’s the rough pencil sketch on the tan paper.
From there, I used Micron pen to re-trace the lines, and Sharpie to fill in the black paint. I had an issue getting my white charcoal to sharpen so I used Posca White for reflections and outline.
Front wheels are Supreme 5-spokes on fat white walls, and the rear wheels are tucked too far to see. Hood louvers complete the custom look on this 1951 Mercury Custom.
