1956 Ford Fairlane Drawing
Gassers are cool. I drew this 1956 Ford Fairlane drawing gasser to honor my Mamaw’s birthday yesterday. ’56 was only the second year of the Fairlane!
She had a ’56 Ford back when they were regular transportation, though I have suspicions about whether her’s could do a wheelie.
I created this 1956 Ford Fairlane drawing on toned tan paper, starting with a light pencil sketch. I left the front bumper off, exposing the straight front axle. I used Micron 02 pen to outline, and then a few Copic grays to fill it in. Most of these cars wore two-tone paint jobs, so I made the top portion white, which really pops off the tan paper.
There are a few features I really like on this one. I like the crispness of the pen work – I used 005 to do some of the fine detail work, like inside the headlights, which I think looks pretty cool. I also like the atmospheric perspective of the light rear tires and darker fronts. Finally, the windshield reflections came out pretty cool to make it look clearly rounded.
Happy birthday, Mamaw! I hope you think it’s cool!
