Shelby GT350R Marker Sketch
Those who know me know how much of a Mustang fan I am (I have two!). Here is a Shelby GT350R marker sketch using the Copic Wide markers for background aesthetic.
First, I sketched the car out using pencil. The perspective on this sketch offers a little more of a challenge. On most drawings, I start with the wheels and use them for perspective and proportion, but this front-ish 3/4 view hides most of the wheel, so I used the headlights as a guide instead.
I really didn’t take my time to lay this one out – I literally pencil-whipped it, and the result is that it came out a little cartoony – but that’s ok! It works!
Here, I moved on to the line work, using a mix of Micron pens and Sharpie. It turns out that Sharpie, which is black, is not as black as Micron. You can see the difference in the fade inside the grille.
Finally, I moved on to the rendering portion of this Shelby GT350R marker sketch. Similar to yesterday’s coupe, I started this one with the Copic Wide strokes and then filled in the car with the darker tones. The wide markers made some of the line work bleed, but it ended up adding a cool unexpected “speed” aesthetic, since the bleed streaks go from left to right behind the car.
