Magazine Sketches
I have a ton of old car magazines in the basement and I thought it would be fun to start a series where I pick my favorite from one and sketch it.
This is my favorite from the October 2011 Hot Rod – a Willys gasser. This sketch was done using a Uni-Ball Onyx Micro pen on 8.5×11 printer paper.
Continuing on with the magazine theme, there’s a super cool article in the March 2004 issue of Hot Rod about the Turbonique Drag Axle from the 1960s. It was basically a miniature turbine that would bolt to the rear axle to improve trap speed.
This sketch was made using a variety of Micron pens on printer paper.
Note the rough outline in pencil – I have yet to overcome my fear of the immediate permanence of starting with pen. I suppose as I improve, it’ll come with time.
