Inktober Week #2
Week #2 was a blast and is now a wrap! Here’s a look at this week’s prompts.
Day #7 was “Enchanted,” which made me think of the enchanted Ford Anglia from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
This sketch was a bit of a risk because of the perspective – it’s shot from below so half the car is the bottom. It was a fun challenge but I really didn’t care for the way this one turned out. I’ll try the HP Anglia again from another point of view later.
Day #8 was “Frail.” When I think of frail, I think of a rickety old Model T:
I absolutely love this one – it couldn’t have turned out better. The shading on the black paint, the brown wooden wheel spokes, the atmosphere showing depth and the blue outline make this thing pop enough to frame. And so I did.
Day #9 was “Swing.” I drew a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger for this one.
I used a different style on this one – no markers, just line work and lines for shading. I love this one, too. Somehow I got the grille backward – the dark bits are supposed to be the chrome and vice versa, but you only know it because I told you.
Day #10 was “Pattern,” which reminded me of the camouflaged patterned cars driving around Detroit with “M” plates.
Here’s a 2020 GT500 with traditional kidney bean camouflage wrap. I tried out some drafting call outs and leaders on this one – it’s pretty cool.
Day #11 was “Snow,” which beckoned a huge snow thrashing monster:
…or a Miata with snow tracks. I owned an NA miata for awhile in college. Getting in it was like putting my car on. Best dollar-for-dollar fun I’ve ever spent on a car.
Day #12 was “Dragon.” I spent a little more time on this one.
This is a WWII Consolidated PB4Y-2, the Navy-version of the B-24 bomber, with dragon nose art on toned tan paper. Looking forward to starting off week 3 with “Ash.”
