Turbo Caravan
What a sleeper! Well, maybe not this one.
The Caravan and Voyager of the 1980s was built on the K-car platform along with stuff like the Reliant, LeBaron, Lancer, and the like. The base version was pretty homely, but along with its brethren, was offered with a very build-able turbo 2.5L 4-cylinder.
Sooooooo…let’s build one into a drag car!
Here’s the rough line work in pencil – I think 4.5 wheels in the wheelbase. Then, the rest of the van is built around the roughed in lines.
This van has Mickey Thompson slicks up front (also noticeably dropped over the stock ride height, by about 1/2 wheel diamater) wrapped around 3-piece aluminum racing wheels. Dig the front splitter bumper attachment, hood scoop to cool the intercooler, fender-exit exhaust, and the fat turbo sticking out of the hole where the turn signal used to be.
The van wouldn’t be complete without wood grain siding. Standard black steel wheels carry the rear. A six-point roll cage protects the driver.
Copic markers are used for all the coloring and Micron pens are used for the outlines.
Ported and polished heads, turbo upgrade and relocate, forged crank and pistons, and interior gut send this van to 11.5 seconds in the quarter.
