…I Am Iron Man…
Tony Stark’s hot rod from the first Iron Man film was actually owned by the director (who also played Happy), Jon Favreau. It’s the quintessential hot rod, a ’32 Ford.
This drawing was different in that the rear wheels are 25% larger than the fronts, so getting proportions in terms of “number of wheels” required a little more precision.
After roughing out the lines with pencil, I went straight for the flames. I started with yellow and darkened with orange and finally some red around the outsides. While I had the red, I worked on the wheels. I left the bottoms of the tires open on this one, which created a unique effect around the outsides of the tires – the darkest portions are in the middle.
Starting with grays, I filled in the chrome work and the black body paint. Again, black is a mirror, so there’s a lot of light reflection on the top of the car. I used charcoal white to extend and outline the flames. No white boarder around the car on this one.
Finally, line work around the car and especially detailing the engine with 005. I like this image of the close up of the flathead V8.
Finally, framed.
